Artist Elvin Flamingo (Dr. Jaroslaw Czarnecki), Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Intermedia and Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, is currently undertaking a short research residency at LJMU's Exhibition Research Lab, funded by the Polish Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw.
Please join us for a conversation about his work on ants, emergent collective super intelligence, and art after humans.
His project The Symbiosity of Creation started in 2012 as a collaboration with ants, intended to continue for at least twenty years. It was first proposed as his doctoral research thesis and has since been exhibited at Media Art Biennale WRO 2015, Wrocław, Poland, where the project received a special Critics and Editors of Art Magazines Award. The work was subsequently included in Collective Making, an exhibition series developed by Joasia Krysa during her tenure as Artistic Director of Kunsthal Aarhus, Denmark, to explore new aesthetic possibilities for making and doing beyond the anthropocentrism of the mainstream art world.
His artistic debut the para-documentary film Small Spaces was awarded the Gold Remi Award in Houston, US (2009). His current works include the triptych We - The Common Body (2015-2017) and Simultaneous Hybrid of Music Improvisation and Bioart (2016).
